Mogadishu (HOL) — Ali Jeyte Osman, the leader of Ma'awiisleey, a local militia fighting against Al-Shabaab, has urged for a decisive plan to end the prolonged conflict in Hiiraan, warning that the war has dragged on without a clear resolution.
Speaking at a Ramadan iftar gathering in Mogadishu, Jeyte criticized the current approach to the war, arguing that without a concrete strategy, the fight risks losing direction.
"This war has gone on for too long—we must bring it to a conclusion," Jeyte told attendees. "It requires unwavering support. We were ahead of the government in launching this battle. If we lose state backing, does that mean we retreat in fear? No. We must fight with resolve—fear is not an option, nor is it dignity."
Jeyte called for a large-scale meeting among the Hawadle clan to solidify a coordinated effort against Al-Shabaab.
"We are in the holy month of Ramadan, yet our fighters are expending ammunition without a structured plan," he said. "This war cannot be fought blindly. I urge the clan elders here to reevaluate our strategy and take a serious approach to this battle."
The Mogadishu gathering focused on accelerating military operations against Al-Shabaab while reaffirming the community's support for Somalia's shift toward a one-person, one-vote electoral system.
