Forensic investigators and police officers secure the scene on Gormsvej in Herning, Denmark, late Monday night, following the fatal stabbing of a 21-year-old Somali woman. Authorities say the suspect remains at large and have urged the public to share any surveillance footage or information that could assist the investigation.
COPENHAGEN, Denmark (HOL) — Danish police are searching for a man suspected of fatally stabbing a 21-year-old Somali woman on Gormsvej in Herning Monday night, in an incident investigators believe was not random.
The woman was found shortly after 9 p.m. with multiple stab wounds. Passersby called emergency services and attempted first aid, but she was later pronounced dead at Gødstrup Hospital. An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday, authorities said.
Police say the suspect was seen fleeing the scene toward Silkeborgvej and the Herning Center. He is described as approximately 20 to 25 years old, around 180 centimetres tall (5'9), of slim or average build, brown-skinned, and of Middle Eastern appearance. He was last seen wearing black jogging pants, a black puffer jacket, and a face mask.
"We have worked in the area throughout the evening and night, including searches using drones and police dogs," said Hans Roost, Chief Inspector with Mid- and West Jutland Police. "We are very interested in hearing from anyone who may have seen anything unusual."
Authorities are urging residents with surveillance cameras or dashcams to check recordings from the Gormsvej area between 7 and 10 p.m. Monday. They also said footage from Sunday and earlier on Monday could be valuable. Police are accepting tips anonymously.
"If you drove or parked in the area in a vehicle equipped with a dashcam, please reach out to us," Roost said.
The murder weapon has not yet been recovered, and no arrests have been made.
Roost added that initial findings suggest the woman was deliberately targeted. However, he emphasized the investigation remains broad and that all possibilities are being considered.
"I can't go into further detail at this stage, but there is a strong indication that this was not a random attack," he said.

A mobile police station was deployed to the Gormsvej area Tuesday morning to assist with the investigation and offer support to concerned residents. Road closures that had been in place around Gormsvej, Thyrasvej, and Silkeborgvej were lifted later in the day as police scaled down their presence.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Mid- and West Jutland Police at 114.
