Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has appointed two senior advisors to strengthen governance, democracy, and federal affairs in the country, according to a statement released on Thursday.
Abdisamad Mohamed Gallan, former security minister of Puntland, has been named Senior Adviser on Federal Affairs. He is expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing the federal system and fostering cooperation among Somalia's regional administrations.
Ahmed Jama Mohamed Cillal has been appointed Senior Adviser on Democracy and Good Governance. He will focus on advancing democratic processes and improving administrative efficiency across the country.
"These two advisors, with extensive experience in governance and federalism, have been tasked by the President to carry out their duties effectively in service of the Somali people and government," the president said.
Gallan and the newly appointed police chief Asad Osman are influential political figures from Puntland and have been vocal critics of Puntland leader Said Deni. Analysts suggest their appointments could signal continued political tension between Puntland and federal government leaders.
Somali Council of Ministers appointed General Asad Osman Abdullahi as the country's new police commissioner on Thursday, replacing Major General Sulub Ahmed Firin. General Abdullahi previously served as the Puntland Security Force (PSF) Commander from 2007 to 2018.
