Mogadishu (HOL) — The European Union transferred military vehicles and equipment to Somalia's government on Tuesday.

The handover, which took place at the General Dhagabadan Training Camp, was attended by Somalia's State Minister for Defense, Omar Ali Abdi, and top EU representatives,

The EU said the delivery will enhance the country's ongoing campaign against insurgent groups.

The event saw attendance from key dignitaries, including the EU's Deputy Director for Africa, Mathieu Breins, the EU Special Envoy to Somalia, and representatives from the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).

State Minister Abdi expressed gratitude for the EU's ongoing support, noting the positive impact of the vehicles and equipment on national security efforts. "These resources are essential for advancing our armed forces' fight against extremist groups that threaten the stability of our nation," Abdi said. "The EU's contributions continue to strengthen our national defences, equipping our forces with the necessary tools for security and peace."

EU Deputy Director Breins echoed Abdi's sentiments, affirming the EU's commitment to aiding Somalia in building a resilient defence framework. "It's a privilege to deliver these critical military supplies to Somalia's armed forces, supporting their essential work for national security," Breins remarked.

The transfer adds to several previous EU military support packages, including vehicles, equipment, and other resources provided over recent years.
