Explosions devastate Safa and Marwa market in Elasha Biyaha neighbourhood

    Mogadishu (HOL) – A series of powerful explosions triggered a massive fire that engulfed the Safa and Marwa market in the Elasha Biyaha neighbourhood on the outskirts of Mogadishu on Saturday night, causing extensive damage to one of the area's largest commercial hubs.

    The blasts caused widespread destruction across many commercial areas within the market, located about 15 km south of Mogadishu.

    Preliminary reports indicate that al-Shabaab militants were behind the attack after traders followed a government directive to install CCTV cameras at their premises.

    Several business owners whose shops were destroyed in the explosions claimed that the militant group directly targeted their businesses in retaliation for their cooperation with the government.

    Federal Government security forces have been deployed to the market and are investigating the incident, resulting in significant economic losses for the local business community.
