Mogadishu (HOL) - A fire engulfed Mogadishu's main market, causing damage to a portion of the market.Firefighters from the Banadir region administration and private companies extinguished the fire, which forced hundreds of people to flee the market.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started in the utensil section but spread to other market parts, such as gold, honey, and tailors sections.
The cause of the fire remains unclear, but market traders blamed an electrical fault in a restaurant.
Banadir police officers led by the Commander of the General Division of the Banadir Regional Police, Major Mahdi, patrolled the Bakara market to prevent looting on Saturday night, which occurs at any time of such incidents in the markets.
According to the traders, the fire destroyed many businesses and caused significant property damage.
