Las Anod (HOL) — A fierce battle between Somaliland forces and SSC-Khatumo forces erupted on the outskirts of Las Anod once again on Tuesday.
According to reports, the fighting started after the Somaliland army attacked SSC army posts on the outskirts of town. However, the Somaliland government later released a statement claiming that the SSC attacked their army bases, but they defended themselves.
It remains unclear who initiated the conflict and how many casualties were sustained in the town.
Locals allege that Somaliland forces bombarded the town with heavy mortars, causing extensive damage to important landmarks.
The fight in Las Anod has now entered its 17th day, with no intervening party between the two sides.
Over 170 people have been killed, over 500 have been injured, and more casualties are expected as the fighting in Las Anod town continues.
