Mogadishu (HOL) - Somalia's armed forces, supported by the Galmudug Darawish army and local fighters, captured two villages in the southern Mudug region from al-Shabab militants on Monday.
The joint forces took over Dhagahdher and Dahar Ali Khaylow villages south of Aad town in Mudug.
The officers leading the operation stated that forces are still conducting operations to chase Al-Shabaab members who were ousted from the areas but did not confirm official casualties on both sides.
The operation comes a day after the Somali government reported that a high-ranking al-Shabab commander in the south of the country was targeted in collaboration with the United States military.
Somali Information Minister Daud Aweis stated in a post that the operation aimed to neutralize the terrorist leader responsible for orchestrating terror attacks.
The Somali government reported that the strike occurred in the Middle Jubba region on December 17, and the militant commander has not been identified.
