Beledweyne (HOL) - Government forces, with support from local clan militias, conducted planned operations in several locations in the western Bulaburte district of the Hiiraan region on Saturday.
The commissioner of Bulaburte district, Hassan Mohamed Abdi, along with other officials, including lawmaker Abdiladhif Mohamud and Colonel Abdinasir Sheikh Ali, led the joint forces in anti-al Shabab operations in Dhagashale, Kiligubadle, Harar, and Boale.
The commissioner told the media that Al-Shabaab had fled the area, and the forces had destroyed their positions and dug holes in the villages. The operation, which began on Saturday, will continue until the liberation of the Hiiraan region is completed, he added.
In related news, Somali government forces and local clan militias have liberated several villages in the southern town of Beledweyne following the start of the second phase of the anti-al Shabaab operation in the Hiiraan region on Thursday.
The operation, which began in the southern Baledweyne region, was led by the governor of the Hiiraan region, Ali Jeyte Osman.
