Jowhar (HOL) - Hirshabelle state President Ali Gudlawe Hussein, Vice President Yusuf Ahmed Hagar and Hiiraan governor Ali Jeyte Osman visited locals and soldiers in Adan Yabal, a recently liberated strategic town in the Middle Shabelle region, on Friday.

The state President inspected neighbourhoods of and visited soldiers and local clan militia forces and commended the joint force’s achievements against al Shabab insurgent groups.

"We saw no educational or health facilities in the neighbourhoods we visited, confirming that al-Shabaab has denied people the opportunity to develop. The children were forced to join the war. We call for total liberation against Al Shabaab," he said.

The President's delegation promised that the civilian infrastructure would be restored in Adan Yabal.

On Monday, the Somali National Army (SNA), along with local militias known as Ma'awisley, captured Adan Yabaal town, a longtime Al Shabaab stronghold about 220 kilometres north of the capital Mogadishu.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud told state-owned media that the militants blew up the district’s water wells as they were fleeing. He promised the federal government would work with regional authorities to repair them.

President Ali Gudlawe Hussein, who inspected damaged water wells in the town, welcomed the President’s initiative.

Run Nirgood, the only village held by al Shabab in the Middle Shabelle region, would be liberated in the coming days, as the militants' time had come to an end, according to President Mohamud.
