Political heavyweights register for parliamentary speaker positions

    The organizing committees of the elections for Lower and Upper House speakers are issuing the official registration certificates to the candidates vying for leadership positions in both houses on the second day.

    The Upper House committee has registered three candidates for Senate speaker, including incumbent speaker Abdi Hashi Abdullahi, two candidates for First Deputy Speaker of the Senate, and seven candidates for Second Deputy Speaker.

    The incumbent speaker Mohamed Mursal Sheikh Abdirahman, Sheikh Aadan Madobe, Sadaq Abdullahi Abdi, Abdirashid Hidig, Sadaq Abdullahi Abdi, Adan Mohamed Nur Saransoor, and others, have received certifications of speakership candidacy from the Lower House committee. Mohamed Abdalla Awad, the incumbent Second Deputy Lower House Speaker, has also received his registration certificate.

    Registration for the Speaker of the Upper House will close on Thursday.

    The committees organizing the election of the House Speakers announced that the Upper House speaker would be elected on April 26 and the speaker for the Lower House on April 27.
