Two dead in Jowhar after landmine blast target election official

    Jowhar (HOL) - Two people are dead in Jowhar after a landmine blast hit a vehicle convoy heading toward the regional airport.

    A member of the federal election committee, Mahad Omar Abdi, was reportedly the target of the attack. Abdi survived the explosion, but two soldiers escorting the convoy to Mohamed Dhere airport were killed.

    Hirshabelle administration forces arrived at the scene minutes later and removed the bodies.

    Sunday's landmine blast in Jowhar was the third time explosive ordnance was detonated, causing casualties. The attack comes as officials in Jowhar are holding elections for Somalia's federal parliament.
