MOGADISHU (HOL) - The sixth round of electoral talks between President Mohamed Farmaajo and Federal Member State will take place this Thursday.
Villa Somalia announced Tuesday the talks will kick off in Mogadishu for a day.
“The forum marks the climax of efforts towards implementing the elections agreements & recommendations,” Villa Somalia communications Director Abdirashid Hashi said.
Previous talks between leaders of the two levels of government have in the recent past failed to yield a deal following unresolved differences.
The last round in Dhusamareb in February collapsed forcing Farmaajo to return to Mogadishu after three days.
Jubbaland and Puntland have demanded Farmaajo attends the talks as a candidate and not president because his term in office has lapsed.
The opposition grouping Council of Presidential Candidates (CPC) has also called on Farmaajo to hand over office to a transitional council.
The announcement today follows Monday meeting between Prime Minister Mohamed Roble and the CPC. The meeting was the second one is about two weeks.
The term of the president and parliament lapsed in February and December respectively.
