Sunday April 8, 2018

Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali Lawmakers will debate on the impeachment motion against Jawari on Monday, House leadership confirmed.

The Parliament sessions have failed take place since the beginning of this month after political squabbles engulfed the House.

In a statement,  Abdiweli Sheikh Mudey, the First Deputy Speaker of Somalia’s Federal Parliament announced that the house will convene on 9th April decide the fate of the controversial motion.

"The acting House Speaker and the first Deputy Speaker informs all the lawmakers that tomorrow, Monday, 09/04/2018 at 9:00 am, there will be a parliamentary session, the agenda will be the motion lodged against the Speaker of the People's House," reads the statement seen by Hiiraan Online.

The announcement comes amid the opposing factions of Parliament members are engaging separate talks with President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.

Several MPs appointed by Speaker Jawari to represent him in the ongoing negotiations have discussed with President Farmajo over the motion and the impacts of the political stand-off.

No official statement was issued over recent talks between the President and Pro-Jawari MPs.

This would be the fourth statements Mudey issues over the house sittings though the previous ones were cancelled over disputes and Presidential interventions.

It is unpredictable how the situation of tomorrow's session will play out as it appears that both sides have not yet agreed to bury the hatchet.
