Somalia calls on U.S. to reconsider recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capiital

Mogadishu (HOL) - The Somali government on Friday called on U.S government to reconsider its decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel.

In a statement by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Somali government expressed concern over the U.S government's controversial decision.

"Somali government is concerned about the "dangerous" decision taken by President Donald Trump to recognise Al-Quds (Jerusalem) as the capital city of Israel. We called on the government of United States to rethink about the dangerous," reads the statement.

The ministry further said the government of Somalia and its people are ready to back people of Palestine.

"The government and its people are ready to support and stand with the Palestinians' right to statehood," pledged the statement.

On Wednesday, President, Trump broke with nearly seven decades of U.S. and policy by recognizing the Holy City, Jerusalem as the administrative capital of Israel government.

Israel had forcefully occupied Palestinian territories in 1967.

2017 report by Amnesty International said Israel's ruthless policies of land  confiscation and illegal settlement inflicted immense suffering on Palestinians.

Several peace talks held between Palestinians and Israelites have collapsed following provocations by the government of Israel.
