Mogadishu (HOL) - As the whole world is celebrating the International women’s day the 8th match,
Somalia’s president Hassan Sheik Mahmoud said that women were a key sector within the community in every country and particularly in Somalia calling them as the ‘pioneers of the people’.
“First I would like to congratulate the whole Somali women in and outside the country on the arrival of such important day. I urge you to consolidate your important role in the community and I confess that the Somali women are the backbone of our community” President Hassan Sheik Mahmoud said in his press statement on the world women’s day occasion on Saturday.
He said that the Somali women had buckled themselves down to covering the daily bills of their families for the past 23 years of anarchy in the country, saying that the Somali women’s role in the community was very huge and was tangible.
“Our Islamic religion and the age-old culture of Somalia are both clearly indicating the women’s rights and even the important role they have in the community, I thank the rest of our community how they often respect their women and give them their rights as stated by our religion” President Hassan noted in his statement.
The president said that his government believes that the Somali women had also played a key role in the process of peace building and development in the country since Somalia fell into anarchy over two decades ago.
“I promise that the Somali government was committed to respecting their rights to help them have their role within the country” the president said adding that his government was encouraging women’s involvement in politics, businesses and education” the president emphasized in his 8 march statement on Saturday.
