Somali rights activist Mohammed Ajab (34) is taking on the Police Minister, suing for damages after he was allegedly assaulted by seven policemen in Bellville - simply because he recorded the registration number of the police van on the scene of a search of two other Somali men, according to a Weekend Argus report.
He said in papers before the Western Cape High Court that the police assaulted him, before throwing him out of their van in an unknown area. According to the papers, the incident occurred in a Somali area in Bellville in November 2010. But Ajab said he still suffered trauma from the event. His back has troubled him ever since, and he suffered headaches daily.
