Mogadishu (HOL) - The United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran early Saturday morning, with multiple explosions reported across Tehran.
According to Iran’s Fars News Agency, missiles struck areas along University Street and in the Jomhouri district of the capital after Israel announced it had carried out a missile attack on the country.
The Associated Press reported that at least one strike in Tehran occurred near offices associated with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency also reported explosions in the northern Seyyed Khandan area of Tehran.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz described the operation as a “preemptive” strike aimed at removing threats to the State of Israel.
Israeli military also said it had issued a “proactive alert” warning the public of the possibility of retaliatory missile launches toward Israeli territory.
Israel’s Airports Authority announced that the country’s airspace had been closed to all civilian flights and advised the public not to travel to airports until further notice.
