Bosaso (HOL) — Puntland regional forces have retaken control of the Miraale area following hours of fighting with ISIS militants, officials said Sunday.
Puntland authorities told HOL that one soldier was killed in the clash, which occurred in Miraale, an area previously vacated by government forces and later occupied by ISIS fighters.

According to officials, Puntland troops had been preparing to launch an operation in the area when they were met with a surprise attack by ISIS, triggering a battle that lasted several hours.
Security officials said the forces killed at least one foreign ISIS fighter and ultimately reasserted control over the area.
The fighting comes amid intensified military operations by Puntland forces against ISIS in recent days, particularly in parts of the Calmiskaad mountains where militants have carried out a series of bombings and attacks.
