Mogadishu (HOL) — Somalia has condemned Iranian drone and missile attacks targeting Azerbaijan, as tensions escalate following the widening confrontation involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
Foreign Minister Abdisalam Ali held a phone call with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Jeyhun Bayramov, to convey Mogadishu’s solidarity and reaffirm Somalia’s support for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“Somalia clearly expressed its opposition to any action that undermines international peace and security,” the statement said, adding that both sides emphasized the importance of respecting international law and preventing further destabilization.
The ministers also reviewed bilateral relations, agreeing to strengthen political dialogue and cooperation in international organizations, as well as advance other areas of mutual interest.
The conversation highlighted Somalia’s current role as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, a position that gives Mogadishu a platform to articulate its stance on regional and global security matters.
