Mogadishu (HOL) — A new contingent of Ghana’s Formed Police Unit arrived in Somalia on Saturday to serve under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia.
The Ghana Formed Police Unit-5, known as GFPU-5, will deploy to Mogadishu, Baidoa and Beletweyne to support the Somali Police Force through joint operations, specialized training and mentorship.
AUSSOM Police Coordinator ACP Dr. Samuel Asiedu Okanta urged the incoming officers to uphold high standards of professionalism, discipline and conduct during their deployment.
He said the Ghanaian unit would play an important role in strengthening the capacity of the Somali Police Force and supporting Somalia’s peace, security and stabilization process.
The deployment is part of AUSSOM’s broader effort to assist Somali security institutions as the country continues working to assume full responsibility for national security.
