Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali National Army commandos killed 15 al-Shabab militants and wounded 20 others in a planned operation in the Farsoley area in Lower Shabelle region, the army said Saturday.
In a statement, the army said Danab commandos carried out the operation against al-Shabab members based in the area.
The statement also said Somali forces destroyed centers and sites used by al-Shabab to organize and plan attacks.
The operations against al-Shabab would continue as part of efforts to restore security and stability across the country," the statement noted.
The army called on the public to cooperate with security forces and support the campaign against the group.
The operation comes as Somali forces continue military offensives against al-Shabab in southern and central Somalia, including operations supported by Turkish and US airstrikes in recent days.
Al-Shabab has not publicly commented on the government’s claims.
