Garowe (HOL) — Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni has ordered all security forces across the semi-autonomous state to remain on full alert, warning of threats ranging from terrorism and piracy to internal infiltration.
Speaking Monday in Qardho district after meeting senior officers and troops, Deni said Puntland was engaged in what he described as a “just war” to defend its people and territory.
He stressed that the administration remains committed to preserving stability in the region, which has long maintained its own security and governance structures. Deni warned of multiple threats, including extremist groups, pirate networks and individuals attempting to infiltrate security institutions to undermine them.
“I am confident that our forces are capable of defending the country and preventing anyone who causes trouble,” he said.
The president’s remarks come at a time of heightened political and security tensions in Somalia, including disputes between the federal government and regional administrations over constitutional amendments and the balance of power within the federal system.
His comments also follow recent grievances within segments of Puntland’s security forces after a cabinet reshuffle announced last week. Some officers have expressed dissatisfaction over what they describe as inequities in political power-sharing among communities. Others have raised concerns about delayed salary payments and resource constraints.
