Arusha, Tanzania (HOL) — Somali Parliament Speaker Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur chaired the 21st meeting of the East African Community (EAC) Speakers’ Bureau in Arusha, Tanzania, on Friday, as regional lawmakers discussed parliamentary cooperation and integration.
Abdulkadir, who currently serves as chairperson of the EAC Speakers’ Bureau, said the meeting focused on strengthening parliamentary cooperation, advancing parliamentary diplomacy, exchanging experiences and ensuring that East African integration delivers tangible benefits for people across the region.
Abdulkadir said Somalia’s House of the People has approved more than 56 laws and 18 resolutions.
“The House’s vision is to fully fulfil its constitutional responsibilities, particularly legislation and oversight, serve the interests of the Somali people, and contribute to strengthening EAC cooperation and integration,” he said.
The speaker said the future of the EAC depends on strong cooperation, resilient institutions and effective parliaments working in the interests and aspirations of their people.
He said Somalia is committed to playing its full role in advancing regional cooperation and integration.
Abdulkadir also announced Somalia’s readiness to host the 22nd EAC Speakers’ Bureau meeting in Mogadishu at the end of January 2027.
He said he hoped the Mogadishu meeting would further strengthen joint efforts toward a united, prosperous and peaceful East African Community.
Somalia took over the leadership of the EAC Speakers’ Bureau in November 2025, succeeding Kenya after a one-year term led by Kenya’s National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.
