Mogadishu (HOL) — U.S. forces conducted an airstrike against al-Shabab militants in Somalia on Friday, U.S. Africa Command said Tuesday.
AFRICOM said the strike took place about 175 kilometers west of Mogadishu.

“AFRICOM, alongside the Federal Government of Somalia and Somali Armed Forces, continues to take action to degrade al-Shabaab’s ability to threaten U.S. forces and our citizens abroad,” the command said in a statement.
AFRICOM did not disclose details about casualties or the type of weapons used in the strike.
The strike comes as U.S. and Somali forces have stepped up operations against al-Shabab in parts of the country.
Al-Shabab, an al-Qaeda-linked group, has continued to carry out attacks in Somalia despite ongoing military operations by Somali forces and international partners.
