Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Djibouti City on Friday leading a Somali delegation to attend the inauguration ceremony of Djibouti’s re-elected President, Ismail Omar Guelleh.
The Somali president and his delegation were received at the airport by Djibouti Prime Minister Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed and other senior officials, who underscored the close relations and cooperation between Somalia and Djibouti.
President Guelleh recently secured re-election with 97.8 percent of the vote, extending his rule for a sixth term. Most opposition groups boycotted the election, while the only challenger received a small share of the vote.
Guelleh, 78, has ruled Djibouti for 27 years after constitutional amendments removed the age limit for presidential candidates, allowing him to remain in office.
