Mogadishu (HOL) — Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Wednesday appointed Abdifitah Qasim Mohamud as the new Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, replacing Daud Aweis Jama.
The appointment was made in accordance with constitutional provisions and followed consultations with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, according to a government press release.
Prime Minister Hamza urged the newly appointed minister to carry out his duties with efficiency and dedication as the government seeks to address its expanding priorities.
Abdifitah previously served as Deputy Minister of Defense before being dismissed on May 21, 2025, in a cabinet reshuffle that also saw Idris Osman Haji Ali appointed to the role. No official reason was given at the time, although Abdifitah later told media he had left to pursue studies.
He is currently a member of the House of the People in the Federal Parliament of Somalia.
