FMs of Egypt, Somalia discuss strategic partnership

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati held a phone call with Somali Foreign Minister Abdelsalam Abdi Ali to review the situation in Somalia and ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

The minister praised the growing momentum in Egypt–Somalia relations, reaffirming Egypt’s full support for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He strongly rejected any unilateral measures that undermine Somalia’s sovereignty, condemning Israel’s recognition of “Somaliland” as a violation of international law, the UN Charter, and the African Union’s founding principles.

He stressed Egypt’s commitment to continue providing political, security, and capacity-building support to Somalia, including training programs offered by Egyptian institutions. Abdelatty also highlighted the importance of securing sustainable funding for the African Union mission in Somalia to help it fulfill its mandate.

For his part, the Somali Foreign Minister outlined recent domestic developments and the government’s efforts to strengthen security and build state institutions. He expressed deep appreciation for Egypt’s support and emphasized Somalia’s keenness to expand cooperation with Cairo to serve both nations and enhance stability in the Horn of Africa.

The two ministers agreed to maintain close coordination and consultation in the coming period to support peace and stability in Somalia, the Horn of Africa, and the Red Sea, while advancing the strategic partnership between the two countries.
