President Mohamud visits Djibouti for talks on regional security

Djibouti (HOL) — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Djibouti on Wednesday for talks with President Ismail Omar Guelleh, as regional tensions intensify across the Horn of Africa and the wider Middle East.

Villa Somalia said the visit is rooted in the longstanding ties between the two neighboring countries and reflects a shared vision on regional cooperation, solidarity and stability.

During the visit, the two leaders are expected to discuss political, security and economic developments in the region, with a focus on shared interests between Somalia and Djibouti.

Djibouti hosts several foreign military bases, including Camp Lemonnier, the primary U.S. military installation in Africa. The meeting comes hours after the U.S. Embassy in Djibouti issued a security alert advising American citizens to exercise increased caution due to ongoing regional tensions and public threats against U.S. interests.

Djibouti’s strategic location along the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden makes it a critical hub for international security operations, while Somalia relies heavily on cooperation with regional partners to address security challenges at home.
