Las Anod (HOL) — Northeastern administration forces have taken full control of security in Adhi-Addeeye district in Sool region after deadly inter-clan fighting killed 21 people and wounded 30 others on Monday, officials said.
The Northeastern Council of Ministers and the Sool regional administration said the situation in Adhi-Addeeye is now stable and that talks are underway to end the conflict.
Local elders also appealed for peace between the two communities, describing them as “two brotherly clans.”
“We offer our condolences to both sides for the victims of the war, and we call on them to resolve the conflict through dialogue and peace,” the elders said. “We also call on both sides to exercise restraint and not escalate the conflict.”
Federal government’s Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation strongly condemned the renewed violence in Sool region, saying it had caused civilian deaths and injuries.
The ministry called on security and judicial institutions to urgently investigate the incident and bring to justice anyone found to have played a role in inciting the violence.
It also urged traditional elders, religious scholars, women, youth, local intellectuals and regional officials to take an active role in ending the violence and supporting peace efforts to prevent further bloodshed.
