Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud joined government officials, traditional elders and Somali scholars Tuesday for the funeral prayer of prominent traditional elder Imam Mohamed Yusuf Ali in Mogadishu.
Imam Mohamed died in India, where he had been receiving medical treatment.

President Mohamud described the late elder as a national figure who played a significant role in peacebuilding, reconciliation and efforts to rebuild Somali statehood.
The president said Imam Mohamed contributed to unifying Somali society and strengthening peace, adding that his legacy would continue to be remembered by the Somali people.
Mohamud offered condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased, as well as to Somali cultural leaders and the wider Somali nation.
