Kenyan police arrest Somali-Australian man at Nairobi airport over fraud allegations

Nairobi (HOL) — Kenyan police have arrested a 37-year-old dual citizen of Somalia and Australia, Nasir Egeh, at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in connection with an ongoing fraud investigation, authorities said Thursday.

The Kenya Police Service said Egeh was intercepted at Terminal 1A shortly after arriving from Australia via Johannesburg on a Kenya Airways flight.

According to a police statement, the arrest followed an active immigration control alert issued on Jan. 30, 2026, linked to a case of obtaining money by false pretenses.

“He was flagged by an active immigration control alert issued on 30th January 2026, linked to a case of obtaining money by false pretenses. After processing at JKIA Police Station, he was handed over to DCI officers for further investigations,” the statement said, referring to Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

Police said investigations are ongoing and that the suspect remains in custody.

Before the official statement was released, Egeh posted a video on social media claiming he was being held at Nairobi airport. The video circulated widely, particularly on TikTok, where he has a significant following.

In the clip, he alleged that he had previously escaped arrest or attempts on his life multiple times, though he did not provide evidence to support those claims.

Egeh has in recent months drawn attention online after declaring himself a candidate for Somalia’s presidency. Last year, he also claimed to serve as an adviser in the office of Somalia’s prime minister.

However, Somalia’s Office of the Prime Minister publicly denied those claims at the time, stating that Egeh has no official affiliation with the government.

Kenyan authorities have not disclosed further details about the alleged fraud case or whether formal charges have been filed.
