Hargeisa (HOL) — Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Irro visited the dialysis unit at Hargeisa General Hospital on Monday, where 12 new machines have been added for patients who need kidney dialysis.
During the visit, Irro inspected the new services, received a briefing from hospital officials and met patients who rely on the dialysis unit.
The visit followed complaints previously raised by kidney patients about the condition of dialysis services, including the need to increase the number of machines and expand the unit’s capacity.
The president said the government had responded seriously to the concerns and complaints of kidney patients, adding that patient care and the development of dialysis services would be a priority in his government’s health policy.
The addition of the 12 machines is part of Irro’s pledge to improve dialysis services in Somaliland hospitals and ensure access to machines, medicines and other supplies needed for patient care, according to the President.
Irro added that health care is a government responsibility and that his administration is committed to ensuring citizens receive quality medical services.
He also said additional dialysis machines would be delivered to hospitals in Boorama and Burco, while a new dialysis unit is expected to be installed at Erigavo Hospital in the near future.
