Beledweyne (HOL) — The director of the Hirshabelle State Teachers Training Institute in Beledweyne, Hassan Ali Gorod Shale, was abducted Thursday morning while on his way to work, the Hirshabelle Ministry of Education said.
The ministry said an armed group kidnapped Hassan in Beledweyne at about 8:30 a.m.
In a post on social media, Hirshabelle Education Minister Said Hagar Camalow condemned the kidnapping, describing it as unacceptable and contrary to Islamic values, statehood and humanity.
“I say that the director teacher who has served the community so much should be freed,” the minister said.
The Ministry of Education emphasized it stands with Hassan, his family, the education community and all those concerned about the incident.
No group has claimed responsibility for the abduction.
Hassan has worked in education for more than 25 years and has taught, trained and supported generations of students and teachers in the Beledweyne community.
