Mogadishu (HOL) — The Commander of the Banadir Regional Police, Mahdi Omar Mumin, has issued a stern warning to security officers against handing over their weapons to civilians, particularly youths who film and circulate videos on social media.
Mahdi emphasized that any officer found engaging in such behavior will be prosecuted and face legal consequences, stressing that the act poses a serious risk to public safety.
The warning followed the arrest of a police officer who allegedly gave his weapon to youths at Mogadishu Football Stadium, where they filmed and shared videos online. A civilian was also detained in connection with the incident.
The warning comes amid a wider crackdown by security agencies in the capital, who have arrested several youths this week for engaging in activities deemed dangerous to public safety at Mogadishu Stadium. The operations began last Friday during an ongoing football tournament between districts in the Banadir region.
