Mogadishu (HOL) – Wadajir Party leader and MP Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame has called on the Federal Government of Somalia to provide urgent military assistance, weapons, and supplies to local fighters confronting the Al-Shabaab militant group in the Hiiraan region.
Addressing the ongoing clashes between Macawisley militias, primarily composed of Hawiye-Hawaadle clansmen, and Al-Shabaab near the Hiiraan-Middle Shabelle border, the opposition lawmaker criticized the government for allegedly failing to support the local resistance forces adequately.
“This is a war of existence. The terrorists are trying to crush the resilience and fighting spirit of the clan militias who have already shattered the prestige and fortifications of terrorism,” said MP Abdirahman. “The government must act immediately to supply the necessary aid and weaponry to reinforce this critical front.”
MP Abdirahman also praised the Macawisley militias for their successes on the battlefield and their display of local unity, encouraging neighboring clans to join the resistance against the militant group.
“Defending the country is a shared responsibility. I urge surrounding communities not to wait until the enemy reaches their homes—now is the time to support your brothers.”
The call comes as fierce fighting has continued for nearly three days, with dozens of casualties reported on both sides. The Somali government has yet to respond publicly to the MP’s appeal.
Al-Shabaab, which is designated as a terrorist organization by Somalia, the United States, and other international bodies, has waged a violent insurgency for more than a decade in its bid to overthrow the Somali government and impose its own strict interpretation of Islamic law.
