Mogadishu authorities seize home allegedly linked to presidential convoy bombing

Tuesday May 6, 2025

Mogadishu (HOL) — Authorities in the Banadir region have confiscated a house in Mogadishu’s Xamar Jajab district, citing its alleged use in activities that posed a threat to Somalia’s national security, including a March bombing that targeted President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s convoy.

Banadir regional spokesman Saleh Omar told local media on Tuesday that the property was seized under a directive issued by the Governor of Banadir and Mayor of Mogadishu. The house belongs to a Somali woman identified as Fahma Warsame Kabayare.

While the administration did not publicly detail the nature of the threat, sources confirmed to Hiiraan Online that the property was linked to the March 2025 bombing that killed several people, including journalist Mohamed Abukar Dabaashe. The attack, which was claimed by Al-Shabaab, occurred in Xamar Jajab and targeted a security convoy escorting the president.

“This house was used for purposes that directly endangered public safety and national security,” said Banadir regional official, adding that the operation followed an investigation coordinated with the Banadir Police Command and the Ministry of Internal Security.

The March bombing was one of several assassination attempts on President Mohamud since he assumed office in 2022 amid an intensified government campaign against the Al-Shabaab insurgency.

Security officials have yet to announce whether any arrests were made in connection with the confiscated property.
