Tuesday May 6, 2025

Algiers (HOL) — The Algerian government has pledged to support Somalia in its fight against terrorism, offering to share its extensive experience in counterinsurgency during a high-level meeting between Algerian Parliament Speaker Ibrahim Boughali and Somali Lower House Speaker Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur (Aden Madoobe) in Algiers.

According to a joint press release, Algeria committed to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Somalia and reaffirmed its readiness to assist in security sector reform and counterterrorism strategies.

"The stability of all Arab countries depends on the stability of Somalia," Speaker Boughali stated, expressing Algeria's solidarity with Somalia as it continues to confront Al-Shabaab and other militant threats.

Speaker Madoobe praised Algeria's leadership role in the Arab world and emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation between the two nations. He also called for stronger inter-parliamentary exchanges and joint development initiatives.

The two sides signed an agreement to facilitate reciprocal parliamentary visits, enhance legislative collaboration, and provide training opportunities aimed at building institutional capacity in both countries.

Speaker Madoobe is in Algeria to attend the Arab Parliament Speakers Summit, which brought together legislative leaders from across the region to discuss regional security, economic cooperation, and unified approaches to common political challenges.
