President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud honours winners of Somalia’s national Quran competition

Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud awarded the top winners of the national Holy Quran Competition, an annual event recognizing excellence in Quranic recitation and memorization. The ceremony, held at the end of Ramadan, underscored the government's commitment to fostering religious education and cultural preservation.

Abdirahman Abdullahi Osman secured first place, receiving $20,000, followed by Zakariye Abdullahi Hassan Rooble with a $15,000 prize. The top-ranking participants were:

  • Abdirahman Abdullahi Osman – $20,000
  • Zakariye Abdullahi Hassan Rooble – $15,000
  • Osman Abdullahi Osman – $10,000
  • Aaisha Aden Mohamed – $7,000
  • Abdirahman Ali Hussein – $5,000
  • Osama Yusuf Farhan – $3,000
  • Ibrahim Abdirahman Ibrahim – $2,000

During his speech, President Mohamud emphasized the competition's role in strengthening religious values and uniting the nation.

"This event reflects the Somali people's dedication to Islamic teachings and highlights the government's role in nurturing future generations of scholars," he said. He reaffirmed Somalia's commitment to upholding Islamic principles and promoting Quranic education.

The president praised parents, teachers, and mentors for their contributions to shaping young reciters, acknowledging their efforts in preserving religious knowledge.

"May God bless them and grant these young scholars wisdom to serve both their faith and their country," he added.

The Holy Quran Competition is held annually during the Holy Month of Ramadan and attracts participants from across Somalia, encouraging spiritual growth and academic excellence.
