Mogadishu (HOL) — The United Kingdom has announced an additional $40 million in humanitarian and health aid for Somalia, raising its total contributions for 2024 and 2025 to over $106 million.
The funding will be directed toward urgent life-saving assistance, including emergency food, clean water, and healthcare. It will also focus on strengthening the resilience of communities affected by drought, conflict, and climate-related crises. These efforts are critical as Somalia faces challenges such as a below-average rainy season, exacerbating the country’s vulnerability.
The new funding allocation includes:
- $15.4 million for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to deliver emergency food, water, first aid, and healthcare to conflict-affected areas.
- $4.5 million for the Somalia Humanitarian Fund (SHF) to support local NGOs in providing life-saving aid and building resilience against extreme climate shocks.
- $5.1 million for UNICEF to improve healthcare and nutrition services for women and children, alongside climate adaptation programs.
- $8 million for the World Food Programme (WFP) to provide food assistance to the most vulnerable populations.
- $4 million for the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to assist displaced populations with shelter and essential services.
- $2.1 million for climate resilience programs, including early warning systems and disaster preparedness.
- $1.3 million for the Caafimaad+ Project to enhance healthcare services across Somalia.
