NISA’s Gaashan forces destroy al-Shabaab explosives site in Lower Shabelle region

Mogadishu (HOL) — Somalia’s Gaashan Special Forces, operating under the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), carried out a targeted operation Monday in the Dhanaane area of the Lower Shabelle region, destroying a house used by al-Shabaab to store explosives.

In a statement released by security officials, the operation was based on intelligence reports confirming that the site was being used by the militant group to prepare attacks against civilians and government targets.

“The house was identified as a key storage facility for al-Shabaab’s explosive materials,” the statement said. “The location was confirmed to be clear of civilians before the strike was conducted.”

The operation is part of the federal government’s ongoing offensive to dismantle al-Shabaab’s infrastructure and reduce the group’s operational capacity in Somalia’s southern regions.

Officials noted that this is not the first such operation in Dhanaane. On June 3, Gaashan forces conducted a separate mission in the same area, killing a senior al-Shabaab commander responsible for coordinating attacks in Dhanaane, Jilib Marka, and Gandarshe.

NISA emphasized that similar operations will continue in a bid to eliminate al-Shabaab’s remaining strongholds and ensure lasting security for the Somali people.
