Pretoria (HOL) – Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, met with Ronald Ozzy Lamola, South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, on Friday in Pretoria to explore ways to deepen bilateral relations and expand areas of cooperation.
The high-level meeting focused on joint coordination in international forums, the drafting of memoranda of understanding, and mutual visa waivers for holders of diplomatic and service passports.
Minister Abdisalam conveyed his appreciation to the government and people of South Africa for hosting a large Somali community that actively contributes to local trade and economic growth. He also underscored the historic and enduring friendship between the two countries.
For his part, Minister Lamola reaffirmed South Africa’s steadfast support for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, emphasizing Pretoria’s commitment to advancing practical initiatives that promote mutual benefit and regional stability.
The ties between Somalia and South Africa are rooted in a shared history, with Somalia offering consistent political and diplomatic support during South Africa’s struggle against apartheid.
