Arab Parliament Speaker Congratulates Somalia on National Day
Mogadishu (HOL) — The Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi, has extended warm congratulations to the leadership, government, parliament, and people of the Federal Republic of Somalia on the occasion of the country’s 65th Independence Anniversary, celebrated on Tuesday.
In his congratulatory message, Speaker Al Yamahi described the anniversary as a pivotal moment in Somalia’s history, marking the nation's enduring journey toward freedom and sovereignty.
He also reaffirmed the Arab Parliament’s commitment to strengthening coordination and cooperation with Somalia’s Federal Parliament across various fields of mutual interest.
Somalia’s road to independence began on June 26, 1960, when the northern region, then British Somaliland, gained independence from British rule. Days later, on July 1, 1960, it unified with the southern territories—formerly Italian Somaliland—to form the Somali Republic.
The Arab Parliament’s message comes amid nationwide celebrations in Somalia, marking six and a half decades of sovereignty, unity, and the nation’s aspirations for peace and development.
