Saturday January 11, 2025

Beledweyne (HOL) – A federal government delegation led by Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) director Abdullahi Mohamed Ali Sanbaloolshe and Minister of Petroleum Dahir Shire Mohamed has convened meetings in Beledweyne to accelerate efforts against the militant group Al-Shabaab.

The delegation, which includes federal lawmakers, held discussions with various community leaders, traditional elders, youth and security commanders in Beledweyne.

During a gathering with youth representatives, NISA director Sanbaloolshe emphasized the importance of collective action in addressing security challenges.

“We must focus on reopening roads and intensifying the fight against Al-Shabaab. The obstacles are behind us, and now, liberating the country is a shared responsibility,” he said.

Sanbaloolshe urged the youth of the Hiran region to collaborate with federal government forces, which have taken the lead in securing Beledweyne. Youth representatives expressed their commitment to supporting the government’s efforts to improve security and stability in the town.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is expected to visit Beledweyne in the coming days to reinforce the government’s commitment to tackling underlying political grievances that have contributed to insecurity. President Mohamud plans to engage with traditional elders, intellectuals, youth, and women from the Hawadle clan to promote dialogue and foster reconciliation.
