Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali artist Qamar Suuggaani was assaulted Friday night in the Jigjigayar neighbourhood of Hargeisa, the latest in a string of violent incidents targeting the performer.

The attack occurred as the popular singer left a wedding at the Crown Hotel, where he had been performing. Speaking to Bakayle Media, he recounted the ordeal.

"A crowd suddenly rushed toward me," he said. "I tried to defend myself, but there were too many of them. It was overwhelming."

Video footage of Friday's assault circulated widely on social media, sparking outrage.

The assailants, whom Qamar identified as a group of young men, allegedly questioned his presence in the area. He suggested they may have connections to rogue elements within local security forces.

"From what I've heard, these individuals are tied to intelligence operatives acting outside the law," he claimed.

Qamar said that this is not an isolated incident and that he has faced similar attacks in Hargeisa, Djibouti, Dire Dawa, and other cities. His supporters are increasingly frustrated by the lack of accountability and protection for public figures. Many called for justice, demanding an investigation into the repeated targeting of the artist.
