Baidoa (HOL) – Southwest regional state President Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen chaired a security council meeting in Baidoa on Saturday, focusing on strategies to increase regional security and counter the ongoing threat posed by Al-Shabaab militants.
The meeting reviewed the overall security situation in the region, highlighting the recent success of military operations in the Bay and Bakool regions, which led to the killing of dozens of Al-Shabaab militants and the liberation of several strategic areas.
Key officials attending the meeting included the Minister of Internal Affairs, Deputy Minister of Security, Governor of Bay Region, Mayor of Baidoa, and senior representatives from various security agencies.
During the session, President Laftagareen emphasized the need for cooperation among security agencies to ensure long-term stability. He called for protecting local communities, preventing extremist activities, and sustaining ongoing operations to deny Al-Shabaab any foothold in the region.
The security meeting comes amid intensified national efforts, supported by local and international partners, to dismantle Al-Shabaab’s network in Somalia and restore stability to conflict-affected regions.
