Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali government forces, led by the 14th October Battalion, launched a major offensive Tuesday morning, targeting 15 villages between Shalaanbood and Janaale in the Lower Shabelle region. The operation successfully dismantled Al-Shabaab hideouts, military officials confirmed.

Lieutenant Colonel Nuur Farey, commander of the 14th October Battalion, stated that the operation aimed to clear the area of Al-Shabaab militants and restore security to the region. He added that the troops had destroyed strategic hideouts used by the insurgents. "The mission is a continuation of our broader efforts to eliminate Al-Shabaab's presence in these key areas," said Farey.The operation took place in villages including Kaaytooy, Mushaani, Majabto, and Doonkaa Daafeedow, which have long been contested by government forces and Al-Shabaab. Casualties were inflicted on the militants, though specific numbers were not disclosed.
Government forces continue to sweep the cleared villages for any remaining threats while securing the area for local residents to return. The targeted villages were previously under Al-Shabaab's control and used as operational hubs for militant activities.
