Hargeisa(HOL) — Somaliland's President Muse Bihi took aim at the popular musical group Xidigaha Geeska, accusing them of mocking soldiers imprisoned for defending Somaliland's sovereignty. The musicians, known for their provocative lyrics, have been releasing a wave of songs that criticize not only Bihi's administration but also his Kulmiye party.
Speaking to constitutional law students at Hargeisa University, Bihi stressed the importance of preserving national pride and sovereignty. His remarks reflected growing frustration in his administration over the group's influence on public opinion.
President Bihi said that the upcoming elections would make clear who the people of Somaliland truly support, urging voters to judge candidates based on their commitment to SSomaliland's existence and future.
Xidigaha Geeska, a well-known and culturally influential group, has thrown its support behind the opposition party Waddani. Their latest songs have taken direct aim at Bihi, criticizing his handling of the Las Anod conflict, which saw significant military losses and territorial setbacks for Somaliland under his leadership.
The group's bold critiques have struck a chord with many, raising questions about whether Bihi can maintain his grip on power as Somaliland's elections approach.
