Hargeisa (HOL) – The Somaliland government has barred Liibaan Al-Adala, a prominent supporter of newly elected President Abdirahman Irro, from entering Hargeisa, sparking protests near the Hargeisa Airport.
Al-Adala, who was travelling from Europe, revealed that he was removed from a Fly Dubai flight in Dubai, UAE, after being shown a government-issued letter preventing his arrival in Hargeisa.
"I was shown a letter stating that the new president of the country refused to let me disembark at Hargeisa Airport," Al-Adala said. "My belongings were scattered, the plane was blocked, and the new president is responsible for all this."
In response, Al-Adala appealed to former Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi, with whom he had previously clashed, seeking his support to resolve the issue.
The ruling Waddani party defended the government's decision, stating that Al-Adala faces pending legal cases in Somaliland courts, which justify denying him entry.
However, legal expert Guled Dafac criticized the move, arguing that denying a citizen entry into their country is unlawful. "If he has committed any crime, he should face prosecution upon arrival," Dafac said.
Al-Adala, once a vocal supporter of President Irro, has been controversial for his inflammatory social media posts, which included insults and calls for community confrontation.
