Mogadishu (HOL) – Nearly a hundred Somali migrants held in Libyan prisons were repatriated to the country's capital city, Mogadishu, on Tuesday.
Somalia's Special Envoy for Migrants, Refugees and Children's Rights, Mariam Yassin, the Director of the Arab Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rage Osman, and other officials welcomed the returnees at the Mogadishu's Aden Aden International Airport.
With support from the UN's International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Somali government successfully secured the release of the 99 Somali nationals.
In December 2022, the Somali government collaborated with the IOM to coordinate the release of 97 Somali migrants, which included five women, from detention camps in Libya.
